    Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a clinically proven, non-invasive treatment that uses low-energy soundwaves to stimulate the body's natural healing response.

At The Podiatry Centre, we use radial shockwave therapy, which can penetrate tissues up to 5 cm deep. This makes it particularly effective for treating chronic tendon and fascia conditions of the foot and ankle, including:

    • Plantar fasciopathy (plantar fasciitis)
    • Achilles tendinopathy
    • Other persistent tendon and soft tissue injuries

The acoustic waves create microscopic pressure changes within the affected tissues, stimulating a natural healing response. This can help to:

    • Increase blood circulation to the injured area
    • Stimulate tissue repair and regeneration through activation of the body's healing processes
    • Reduce pain by influencing pain-signalling nerve fibres
    • Improve function and support long-term recovery

ESWT is often recommended for patients whose symptoms have not improved with rest, stretching, orthotics or other conservative treatments.

Most patients require a course of 3 treatments, with improvement typically becoming noticeable 6-8 weeks after treatment begins, as the body's natural healing processes take effect. Some patients experience pain relief sooner, while others continue to improve over several months.

This treatment is available in all of our clinics.
